Culinary Arts is a fun way of learning. What better way to start teaching them while they are still young? From counting skills, reading, following directions, identifying colors and developing their creative energy, beginning an early introduction on what works in the kitchen and into their tummies is a great way to spend their time. Andreea Apostol of Macau Sweet Ideas has started Le Petit Chef De Macao. This innovative idea she gladly discussed, is not limited to sweets nor a specific age group. She states that “We do not limit our activities to sugary sweets and truly encourage children to explore healthy yet kid-friendly dishes”.
Sharing the same foundation in childcare and education is Ze Ai Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten Preparation where Le Petit Chef De Macao is housed. Starting with the idea of cleanliness and hygiene, children are oriented properly before heading to the child-friendly kitchen where colorful cupboards and utensils are available for use during the class. There is a module prepared for each weekly activity and even a homework when necessary. The classes include tuition, ingredients, packaging as well as the provision of equipment, an apron, and a cooking notebook. The activities represent a real cooking school and during the lessons, kids will learn about the art of cooking, understanding that cooking is a lifelong skill and can be artistic, creative, and fun. Kids between 3 to 16 years old can learn important things about food, ingredients, flavors, colors plus they’ll even get to share a meal with their parents.
With a goal to help your little ones make their culinary art as creative and fun as possible, we had a quick chat with Andreea. Admitting her love for Italian cuisine and her ultimate obsession with chocolate cake, she, however, explains that she has started exploring vegetarian food. How long have you been in Macau?
Almost eight years now in Macau, it feels like my home. When I moved here I started to cook and explore baking. I then enrolled in a culinary arts class and earned my diploma. I continued to venture on the same path and that has brought me to where I am now.
What inspired Le petit Chef De Macao?
I have the wonderful support from many people. I work together with Ze Ai Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten Preparation where the activity is being held. We want to help kids learn how to cook and be oriented in the kitchen and be attentive with their food. Starting a healthy lifestyle at a young age is very important for them to understand what a real food and the value of nutrition truly is.
What do you love most about Macau?
I like to go on the sea in Hac Sa Beach. I love the lush surroundings. Macau changed my life because I found my passion for cooking in this city. I even ventured in sports and thus have discovered wellbeing and wellness during my stay. I gained many amazing friends who are like family to me. I truly feel like this is my home now!
“Macau Sweet Ideas have been up and running for three years now so baking is a huge part of my life. I love cooking for my family and that is my greatest love”, gushes Andreea. The bubbly Chef who can always be spotted with a smile on her face is a whiz with kids. You can mail [email protected] for more information.
