Inaugurated on July 28 with the Main Exhibition and the Invitational Exhibition by Local Artists at the Macao Museum of Art, Art Macao is back!
From July to October, “Art Macao 2023” will present eight exhibition sections—the Main Exhibition, the Public Art Exhibition, the City Pavilion, the Special Exhibition, the Invitational Exhibition by Local Artists, the Local Curatorial Project, the Art Exhibition of Higher Education Institutions and the Collateral Exhibition.
Exhibitions held in Macau’s glitziest venues include, “BE@BRICK MACAU,” the world’s first immersive BE@RBRICK art exhibition at Galaxy Macau, “Mr Doodle First Exhibition in Macao” at the City of Dreams, “The Contour of Light: A Re-encounter with Leonardo da Vinci” at Wynn Palace, “To Infinity and Beyond: The Art of Hsiao Chin” at MGM Cotai, “Virtually Versailles” at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau and “Meet the Magic – In Celebration of Disney 100 By Philip Colbert & Jason Naylor” at Lagoon and Main Lobby of The Venetian Macao, Le Jardin, ASCE Diverse and Explorative Art Hub at the Londoner Macao.
Art Macao will feature 30 art exhibitions across the city, engaging the public in diverse aesthetic experiences by fostering profound artistic dialogues with over 200 artists from over 20 countries and regions. The event, under the curation of esteemed artist Qiu Zhijie, Vice President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, is titled “The Statistics of Fortune.” This theme delves into the inseparable connection between scientific research and religious activities throughout history, prompting contemplation on the relationship between science and religion from a fresh perspective.
Situated on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the Macao Museum of Art, the Main Exhibition presents a captivating collection of 118 pieces (sets) by 42 renowned artists hailing from Asia, Europe, and America. These masterpieces offer fascinating insights into the intersection of science and religion from enchanting and intriguing perspectives. The exhibition showcases an array of traditional artistic forms, including painting, engraving, photography, mixed materials, and sculpture. Moreover, it goes beyond convention, featuring innovative and novel expressions such as installations, video art, and artificial intelligence creations, creating an unmissable grand event of creativity.
On the 1st floor of the Macao Cultural Centre, visitors can find the Invitational Exhibition by Local Artists titled “‧ART Space.” This section highlights the artistic prowess of six local talents, namely Konstantin Bessmertny, Ung Vai Meng, Lampo Leong, Chan Hin Io, Bunny Lai Sut Weng, and Eric Fok Hoi Seng. Their new works, inspired by the event’s theme, beautifully depict the landscape and diversity of Macau’s local art scene.
The “Local Curatorial Project” will feature four selected proposals, each promising to be an exhibition filled with fantastical ideas that highlight the remarkable strength of local creations. The chosen projects, namely “Revelation to __” by Myland Culture, “The Typhoon of Destiny” by ART YIIMA, “Synchronicity – Topology of Mind” by Alice Kok, and “The Secret of the Golden Flower” by Chang Chan, will captivate audiences with their unique perspectives. These exciting exhibitions are scheduled to open successively from September onwards.
