Mong-Há Hill Municipal Park is located on a hill with the same name. Spreading over 38,560 square meters, this park is opened to the public for free and features several different areas, including for kids to play and adults to rest and walk. One of Mong-Há Hill Municipal Park’s most popular features is its trails, where people–especially runners and fans and trekking–can fully enjoy the fresh air and nature.
Before the park’s construction, the hill was a dense forest, which makes this area one of the peninsula’s remaining green lungs. Mong-Há Hill Municipal Park was opened to the public in 1997 mainly featuring nature paths but also some old military facilities, as this was previously a defense area against possible foreign enemies.
With several entrances, the main one sits at Avenida do Coronel Mesquita, accessible through the Mong-Há Fort’s ramp. The west side of the park–after the main square–leads to the nature trails with native trees and plants, some big rocks, and an open-air stage with panoramic views throughout the whole city. The are several resting areas along the way for visitors to relax.
Following the path northwest of the main square, visitors will find an artificial lake and an information counter, as well as an entertainment center fitted with a library. The end of this trail leads to the hills fort’s highest point, also offering panoramic views. Mong-Há Hill Municipal Park also has some old military facilities, including a cannon used to defend the city and from where the military oversaw everything happening along Portas do Cerco area. The park also has a grotto, a children’s playground, and other facilities.
