Fashion is a complex word but it is ultimately all about self-expression. Brands don’t matter as long as you feel confident. It is how you pull off a set of clothing to look good and feel good.
How much attention do you pay to fashion in terms of trends in the way you dress?
I do pay attention to fashion trends. It influences my style and wardrobe. I also tend to look beyond the current trend and highly consider the season.
Does fashion allow people to express their individuality or does it force people to conform?
For me, it allows me to express who I am. We have our different takes on fashion which I respect but conforming to what people want you to dress takes away the confidence to build your own style and your own vision.
The fashion industry is always connected with fame, luxury, glamor, money and oftentimes intimidating. I’d like to believe the age of social media has transformed that perception. You can look for inspirations at the palm of your hands and be fashionable within your means.
How does Macau inspire the way you dress?
Macau is rich with culture and tradition so going old school is cool. The weather also plays a big role here.
What do you think of Macau’s fashion scene? How can it be improved?
Macau’s fashion or streetwear scene is greatly improving. We are definitely keeping up with our Asian neighbours. We need more stores selling streetwear stuff and get our local clothing brands to the mainstream.
How often have you actually seen someone wearing some of the more extreme fashion show creations? Does anybody wear them?
I haven’t seen people here in Macau wear those outrageous fashion show clothing. Maybe from private parties or social gatherings but at the street? Nope! You need a ton of confidence to pull it out. Have you seen the Rick Owens F/W 2017 collection? C’mon!
Do you think that being a fashion model would be an enjoyable interesting life? Would you like to be one?
Me as a fashion model? That would be interesting so I can inspire other men with big structure to dress confidently.
What is in fashion for women/men this year?
For men, I think the trend of oversize clothing of the past year is still not dead. It will still be the go-to style, especially in the winter season. I think high-end brands collaborating with streetwear brands. As for sneakers, the uglier the better! Raf Simmons and Yeezys are some of the examples out there.
How has fashion brought a change in your life?
A lot especially about size! I was a heavy weight guy when my friend introduced me to the world of streetwear two years ago. It has changed the way I value fashion and living a healthy lifestyle and that’s a perfect combination!
Which social media platform are you most active on?
Definitely Facebook because of family and friends are active on that platform as well. Instagram is also where I post things about fashion, my hobbies and also where I look for inspirations and news on the current trend on fashion.
Which celebrities have the best style to you?
Kanye West is an inspiration even if others don’t want to admit it and also Russell Westbrook of the NBA.
What are you currently following in the fashion industry (brand, news, model career, etc.)?
I’m more on the streetwear and sportswear clothing so I follow Nike and Adidas lifestyle collection.
