8 Events Coming Up This Weekend

It’s down to another weekend at our fantastic city, the weather’s getting colder so don’t forget to layer up more clothes to keep yourselves warm. Happening this weekend are some cool events we’d like to share with you—Hotel Okura has a fantastic menu at the Yamazato restaurant, and there are art exhibitions, festivals, and shows. Read on to find out where and when.

FUYUNO KAISEKI DINNER AT YAMAZATO

Dining seasonally is about more than just taste; it’s about deepening your awareness of the here and now, about building a deep texture into your life that goes hand-in-hand with the progression of the cycles of nature. Yamazato brings you a fantastic dining experience and great photo opportunities together in a warm and friendly environment. Their restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices with excellent service.

When: 5:30pm–9:00pm (last order for a la carte 9:30pm), November 28–December 31

“IMAGINARY BEINGS” EXHIBITION BY PORTUGUESE ARTIST ANA ARAGAO

Taipa Village Cultural Association is proud to invite Portuguese illustration artist Ana Aragao to debut her solo exhibition in Macau. Her collection of artworks will showcase an array of building features in different forms and shapes that are drawn spontaneously.

She has an intensive background in architecture but builds her dream houses in illustrations and paintings. Fascinated with cities and their real or imaginary representations, Ana creates her own masterpieces. In 2014, Ana was selected as one of the 200 best illustrators worldwide by Lurzer’s Archive. The talented artist often takes part in exhibitions, lectures, and workshops.

When: 12:00pm–8:00pm, December 6, 2017 –February 21, 2018

2ND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AND AWARDS—MACAO

Local audiences will be drawn by a colorful and exciting programme, while international guests and industry will not only get to taste the excitement of Macau as a destination but meet the Chinese and Asian industries and explore the best of new films from Asia. The industry experts in the organizing team will help film-makers and industry from both sides of the globe to get to know each other in the informal atmosphere of Macau. The festival will feature great directors and stars across its programme but the competition will hone in on first and second-time film-makers who are likely to attend and likely to remember Macao for their future films.

Films in the IFFAM programme will be shown to the public at Macao Cultural Centre, Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, and Cinematheque・Passion. Residents and visitors can buy the film tickets through www.macauticket.com starting from the 8th of November or at the screening venues during the film festival.

Chef Luis Gaspar, winner of the hotly contested Portuguese Chef of The Year Award, recreates his winning dishes alongside others from his extensive repertoire. Based on innovative reinterpretations of such traditional Portuguese ingredients as bacalhau, suckling pig, and octopus, chef Luis’s dishes are full of unexpected nuances of flavor.

“MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS” 3D LIGHT AND SOUND SPECTACULAR SHOW

Sands Resorts Macao welcomes the festive season in great style with the launch of The Venetian Macao’s 2017 Christmas 3D light and sound spectacular. Set against the backdrop of The Venetian Macao’s lagoon area, the stunning light and sound show duration will be 8 minutes long and will run every 30 minutes nightly, alternating between both The Venetian 10th Anniversary and Christmas 3D light shows.

6:30pm,  7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm—Christmas version;

7:00pm, 8:00pm, 9:00pm, 10:00pm—Venetian version

AUSTRALIAN ROCK LEGEND JIMMY BARNES HEADS TO MACAU

Iconic Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes is set to perform his greatest hits at The Parisian Theater for one night only on Saturday, December 9.

Considered by many to be the heart and soul of Australian rock ‘n’ roll, Barnes has enjoyed a colorful 40-year musical career and lived to tell the tale, earning him a place in the heart of every Australian in the process. Along the way, he has sold more records in Australia than any other local rock and roll artist.

After enjoying initial success with his legendary band “Cold Chisel”, Barnes went solo in 1984 with his debut album “Bodyswerve” immediately topping the charts, as did all his albums for a decade thereafter. His 1986 album, “For the Working Class Man”, gave him a signature sound and cemented his place at the center of his generation of Australians. Not only is it one of the most well-known songs in the country, it is also regarded as a ‘theme’ song for many Australians. His further hits included “Freight Train Heart”, “Barnestorming”, “Two Fires”, “Flesh and Wood”, (all No. 1 debuts) and “Soul Deep” – an album of classics that sold almost one
million copies.

LEARN & PLAY! TEAMLAB FUTURE PARK AT MGM

MGM presents Learn & Play! teamLab Future Park at MGM Macau’s Art Space from December 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018. This innovative experience invites visitors of all ages to embark on a fun participatory creative journey. Just in time for the festive season, embark on a journey in an interactive ecosystem populated by the living colorful drawings which turn the space into an explosion of color.

Tickets for Learn & Play! teamLab Future Park will be available for sale from November 15 at the ticket booth at MGM Macau’s Grande Praça, and on the website. Children aged 2 and under are welcome with free admission.

Some of the ticket sale privileges include: Macau residents can enjoy 20% off standard ticket price by just presenting a valid identity card for each ticket at the point of purchase, M life members can enjoy up to 20% off the standard ticket price and guests can enjoy a special ticket price of MOP $100 if they reach a certain spending threshold at MGM Macau.
