The Food
You’re probably wondering what is so special about Malaysian cuisine. Well, brace yourself for an exotic flavorful combination of influences from all around Asia, because that is what Malay food is about.
In Malaysia, Durian is a precious ingredient in many dishes and a staple part of many meals. It is regarded as a national fruit. Since a Malaysian Food Festival would be nothing without the national fruit, Galaxy Macau™ is giving guests the chance to try all kinds of Durian without having to travel to exotic locales.
They say don’t ever judge a book by its cover, and the Durian fruit lives up to this adage. The iconic fruit might have an unpicturesque thorn-covered husk and a pungent smell (which is almost too much for some), but inside there hides a deep and delicious flavor unbeknown to many who don’t get past the smell. It has been proven that only the brave and adventurous can reap the rewards that the godly Durian fruit holds.
The King of Fruit
Believe it or not, there are hundreds of types of Durian in the world and ten of the most famous of varieties will be available in Galaxy Macau™ during this special time only. Indulge in the renowned D24 ‘Sultan’ – known for its sweet and nutty richness with a slightly sharp finish. Or try D163 ‘Hor Lor’ – featuring a mesmerizing creamy sweetness. Or give the D197 ‘Musang King’ a try – bursting with strong durian aromas, golden yellow flesh, and creamy textures.
If there’s one thing you need to bring for the festival, it should be a preparation to try extraordinary experiences. Durian is called ‘the King of tropical fruits’ in Southeast Asia because it’s rich in vitamins, energy, and minerals, and is a good source of antioxidants and dietary fiber. Just like a bottle of fine wine, the older the Durian tree, the more fuller the flavor of its fruit offerings are. It aids the body’s resistance against infection and has a positive impact in digestion and cardiovascular health, amongst other medicinal properties.
Durian Masterpieces
In Malaysia, new variants of Durian are lovingly cultivated and prized fruits are guarded under strict control. Below, find our top favorite dishes which have been specially made with a touch of Durian just for this festival – these dishes are sure to be like nothing you have tried before!
Fall in love with the Double Boiled Coconut Chicken Soup with Durian and Abalone that’s slow-cooked with special ingredients. Not only is it flavorful with every spoonful, but it’s also rich in vitamins. The tropical Asian soup is known to reduce body heat and increase blood circulation. You’ll feel rejuvenated after a bowl or two.
Or try the Baked Lobster with Durian and Cheese (see the Lobster dish photo above). There is nothing ordinary about this dish. The king of shellfish is intricately combined with the king of fruits in baked lobster with Durian and cheese. The result is a heavenly masterpiece of premium D24 Durian sauce, creamy cheese, and succulent lobster, baked together to perfection.
Other highlights include the wonderfully unique D24 Durian Pizza with Mozzarella Cheese and Gold Flakes (Italians might dislike it, but you know this is going to be good). Durian always goes great as a dessert, so after your mains head for the Durian Cream Brulee, Durian Ice Cream, and don’t forget the Durian Portuguese Tarts and Durian Serradura – a tasty and unique Malaysian twist on Macau’s classic sweets.
Another specialty to try is the Pangkor Island Laksa (see the Laksa dish photo above) which uses methods that have been passed down through generations. This is a unique version of the dish specially created by Galaxy Macau™’s in-house Malaysian Chef Ong Soo Wan, who grew up helping his mother run her own Laksa stall in Malaysia. It’s a dish that warms the heart so make sure to save space for it.
Just like traveling, eating is a quintessential way of personal journey and self-discovery. The 7th Malaysian Food Festival offers all that and more in an exciting offering of fun, food and a fabulous setting. Bring your family, friends and fellow officemates.
