Located on the main artery in Coloane Village, by the seaside, the Coloane Library is set in colonial style yellow building with green wooden shutters. Coloane Library is part of the Macau public libraries network. The library’s charming building was built in 1911 and served different purposes through times. Once the Coloane Public Elementary School, it was converted into a public library in 1983.
With a collection of some 7,420 volumes, in addition to various newspaper tittles and different types of magazines, Coloane Library is divided into different aisles covering different subjects such as Chinese and world history, economics, applied science, philosophy and more. The big majority of books available is in Mandarin, however there is a foreign language books section too. There is a seating area for visitors who wish to read in the library.
