Bummed out because there are no reasons for you to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but society still imposes it everywhere you go? Well, here’s a guide for all you anti-romance, singles and dateless people out there! Did you know that Valentine’s Day was created by Hallmark, the company selling greeting cards? Although it might sound fun to have a glamorous dinner and romantic gifts with your other half, this day can be quite sad and lonely for a lot of people. Besides, everything costs a lot! From flower bouquets to dining experiences, spa treatments to hotel deals, Valentine’s Day is basically a “spend-it-all” occasion. If you don’t like spending money, here are some activities you could do to ease the pain and your wallet!
Put your health first and start exercising more
Thinking about getting a gym membership for the longest time? Well, this is your chance! Before loving or caring for someone else, care for yourself first. Grab a deal at your local gym, buy an online fitness plan, or challenge your best friend to a weekly tennis match. Anything to get you moving to get your daily dose of vitamin E(xercise)! If you are looking for gyms, check out our article on Macau’s best gyms here.
Go to the cinema at lunchtime or late afternoon
Couples tend to fill cinemas after dinner and late night, so why not head to an awesome movie session after work or at lunch time? Call up your friends or even enjoy the movie on your own if you’d like! This way, you can enjoy the movie without feeling like you’re everyone’s third-wheel.
Gather some friends for a pot luck dinner
Call over your singleton friends and have a pot luck dinner of your favorite home cooked foods! Have a fun night of good food, warm conversation and what’s a good night without wine? Afterwards, put on your favorite show on Netflix and have a movie night without worrying about needing to be quiet or not turning your phone off!
Start something new
This can be a difficult day for a lot of people, but starting something new and meaningful for ourselves can help. We are all capable of something so help out wherever you can. Start volunteering for a dog shelter, give money to local associations in need, or do that thing you have always wanted to do but never had the guts! Whatever it is, at the end of the day, you are happy and feel fulfilled.
Subscribe to Masterclass
Masterclass is an online teaching website where everyone can learn well, everything! Their most recent addition was Jodie Foster as a film making teacher! How awesome is this? Not a fan of cinema? Well, there’s something for everyone whether if it’s cooking, game design, guitar and more! For USD $180 per year, you get an all-access pass to all of their classes. This might take way more of your time than just on Valentine’s Day, but it’s sure to bring change to your life! To see all their classes and subscribe, browse their website.
At a restaurant, go for breakfast or lunch
Having dinner on Valentine’s Day is way overrated and much more expensive than lunch, breakfast or afternoon tea. With or without a significant other, why not head somewhere nice and cozy to have an amazing breakfast on this day? This will definitely save you from burning a hole in your wallet and save the money instead for something else!
Hallmark revisited
Hallmark created this day, right? Well, let’s do it differently for once. People usually give their boyfriends or girlfriends a bouquet of flowers or some other present accompanied with a card. Why not change this trend and start sending all your other loved ones a greeting card? Whether it’s your parents, your best friend or someone you haven’t seen in a long time. Write something nice to let them know you care and they are always in your heart. After all, isn’t this a special day to celebrate love?
