Balinese artist I Nyoman Suarnata exhibits 30 of his artworks at Casa Garden, from January 22 to February 23. He has an artistic career characterized by an incessant desire to experiment with new paths, ideas, in search of an artistic identity. The works presented vary between what we could call naive art, for its spontaneity and creative simplicity, while others show a more realistic style, mainly focused on the human figure or animals, through the combined use of mixed techniques, oil painting, acrylic, paper clippings, and other writings. I Nyoman Suarnata will also exhibit some charcoal pencil drawings and a few sculptures.
I Nyoman Suarnata’s most recent works have several types of animals for consumption in the background, with characteristics or features that are deformed, cartoonish or even surreal. The artist analyzes and draws inspiration from the traditional art and culture of his region, making a new personal interpretation and incorporating his artistic vision of them in his paintings and sculptures. He completed his studies at the Indonesian Institute of Arts, in Denpasar and participated in several collective and individual exhibitions.
