For the second time Global Wellness Day is coming to Macau, this year happening on June 11th at The St. Regis Macao. We sat down with Corinne Mackay, local GWD ambassador, and spoke about living in Macau and the Global Wellness Day.
How long have you been in Macau?
Ten years now living in Macau. We arrived in 2006 with twin girls that were only 4 and my son that was 2. My children have lived most of their life here now aged 14 and 12.
How have all these years been for you and what kind of connection have you developed with Macau?
We’ve loved living in Macau, I suppose that shows when you’ve been here this long. It’s a great expat lifestyle. Easy to get around, easy to travel and you find that you make a great network of friends that are hard to leave.
What do you do? How did you start Inception Health & Fitness and how has it been going?
Inception Health & Fitness started in Australia in 2002 so when we arrived here 2006 it was something that I continued to do.
I run a variety of courses from outdoor Bootcamps and Boxing Fitness to Personal Training and Fitness Nutrition.
I was the first trainer in Macau to offer outdoor bootcamp training over 9 years ago. I love this style of training as the dynamics constantly change and clients are challenged at each session.
Business has been great. I’m blessed with a fantastic team that have been training with me for many years. When you see your clients go from strength to strength I find it to be such a rewarding job and keeps me inspired to keep going.
What has inspired you to bring GWD (Global Wellness Day) to Macau?
Global Wellness Day is all about bringing awareness to the public about living happier and healthier lives, even if it’s for just one day.
As the founder of Inception Health & Fitness, my job is my passion. Personally helping others to achieve their wellness goals by introducing creative strategies into their lives that ignites change for the better. As recognition for the work that I’ve done in Macau I was nominated by my piers in early 2015 to be the Global Wellness Day Ambassador for Macau.
This year is the second time. What has the response been like?
There has been a great response so far with less than two weeks to the event. We are looking forward to a great day. Our main sponsor is The St. Regis Macao who are hosting the event. It’s a fantastic backdrop to enjoy the activities, relax by the pool and spend time with the family.
What are the highlights of the GWD program this year? Is there anything we must participate in?
We have a full day of different activities to bring awareness of living well. Highly recommend everyone to check out each activity and see which suits their lifestyle and gain wellness tips from the talks.

What do you think of Macau’s fitness scene?
The fitness boom has grown over the years with only myself and two other trainers that I knew of back then to loads of trainers today.
Presently, I find that there is a big variety on offer whether it’s Bootcamp, Boxing Fitness, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba or CrossFit, there seems to be something for everyone. Which is great! Everyone needs to find an activity or group that not only inspires but keeps them coming back for more.
You do a lot of boot camps—what are your favorite outdoor workout spots in Macau?
Yes, I love the variety that the outdoors can provide to the training session. Be it hills, stairs, benches or sand, you just get can’t get the same variety indoors.
I love using areas in both Coloane and Taipa. Myfavoritee spot is training on the Esplanade and Hac Sa Beach. With my training being very early at 5:45am it’s always a great way to start the day seeing the sun come up.
What activities would you suggest to a fitness enthusiast travelling to Macau?
We have so many fabulous trails in Macau. It’s a great way to be active and see Macau from a different perspective. Whether on your own or with friends, walk or run around the newly surfaced trail at Taipa Grande. This trail will offer great views of Macau peninsula and as you walk or run around the mountain you’ll take in views of the Cotai Strip and Old Taipa Village.
Why come to Global Wellness Day?
This is a day to pause and reflect. Pause from our busy schedules and reflect on the value we put on our lives. “One day can change your whole life” slogan for me, says a Journey starts with a single step.
With 365 days in a year this one day can be the first step in a journey of self discovery and self awareness to live a healthier and happier life.
