Bonjour! Macau’s Le French May 2016 is over and it’s been truly amazing! From heritage to contemporary art, music, cinematography, and of course, gastronomy, the beauty of French culture has once more touched the heart of Macau. As it has partaken in this festival, MGM Macau showcased Degas’ sculpture exhibition – Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion. The famous Grande Praça also took a journey into 19th century France with a beautiful array of colors from the Butterfly Garden and the rare collection of Degas’ bronze sculptures. To honor of the “FUN is for everyone” event, the Grande Praça Café has their own high-tea set complete with pleasingly beautiful sweet and savory items to match your coffee or tea.
We all know how particular the French are with their cafés, well the Grande Praça Café has a great selection of European brewed coffee and tea along with their cakes and hors d’oeuvres. The “FUN Afternoon Tea for Two” (MOP $288) is specially made for the butterfly themed event and is ongoing until the end of November 2016. The tea-set serves an assortment of miniature pastries and savouries, scones and two espressos or tea of your choice.
We had a Macchiato Freddo and wanted to try another refreshing drink. Our waitress personally recommended New Feeling which was a blueberry, mint and lime concoction; definitely a must-try! In addition, we had a few cakes that were recommended by the supervisor: Passionfruit Cheesecake, Pecan and Hazelnut Mousse Cake, and Dark Chocolate Cake (coated with Raspberry gelatin); all cakes can be purchased for around MOP $30 in MGM’s Pastry Bar. Everything tasted incredibly delicious but we had a few items that are definitely a must-try:
Must try at FUN Afternoon Tea Set:
Passionfruit Cheesecake
New Feeling (promotional summer drink)
Piedmont-hazelnut Dome
Homemade Orange Jam (scone condiment)
Spinach Sandwich with Horseradish Butter and Smoked Salmon
A few good points we have from the café includes their great indoor but outdoor atmosphere that has a view of Grand Praça and hotel events. Their tea-set is better served with hot drinks and is enough to accommodate 2-4 people, perfect for friends and families! Although it was sold separately, Grand Praça Café is well-known for their wide range of éclairs. Flavors ranging from coffee, green tea, and fruity varieties that could definitely satisfy anyone’s cravings. The price range of their menu is from MOP $45 to MOP $80, which is good value for a i 5 star hotel. Now you can feel truly French enjoying a warm café and unique heritage at the same time
