This year’s Macao Arts Festival takes “Origin” as its theme, exploring this universal subject by means of different art forms with a total of 26 programmes in seven categories, gathering artists from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, the Taiwan region and elsewhere. MACAO ORCHESTRA’S 20TH CENTURY MUSIC INNOVATION
The Macao Orchestra will be presenting chamber music works by a number of 20th-century composers. Coordination of instruments in each part of an orchestra is essential for any performance and it puts to test the collaboration among the musicians and the expression of their sentiments. It will feature works by several American composers, enabling the audience to experience the charm and flexibility of chamber music.

2018 BRAND STORY–MACAO ORIGINAL FASHION EXHIBITION
The Macao Fashion Gallery invited several local fashion designers to plan and decorate its exhibition space in order to promote their respective brands. In this exhibition, visitors have an in-depth understanding of the stories and concepts behind each brand. In addition, the Macao Fashion Gallery set up a “Brand Story – Pop-up Shop” where visitors can also buy products from the brands featured in the project.

PUNACOTHECA–PAINTING AND ILLUSTRATION BY RODRIGO DE MATOS
Rodrigo de Matos’s latest exhibition is made up of paintings that “are a kind of visual wordplay”. The Portuguese cartoonist says that “The images are almost always literal interpretations of certain expressions, which end up in a certain degree of surrealism.”

SWISS STYLE NOW AT TAP SEAC GALLERY
Organised by three experienced Swiss curators, the exhibition “Swiss Style Now” is divided into two sections, “Classic” and “Contemporary”, featuring 250 works from a different generation that covers graphic designs of posters and book covers, among others, which systematically illustrate the development and evolution of Swiss graphic design.
In addition to the originality of the design, the material and craftsmanship of the work fully demonstrate the ingenuity of the designers. The curators hope to present the audience with a new spectrum of contemporary Swiss graphic design through the exhibition.

MY CHINESE ZODIAC–EXHIBITION BY RAQUEL GRALHEIRO
The exhibition at Albergue SCM features a total of 25 art pieces of acrylic paint and mixed media techniques by Portuguese artist Raquel Gralheiro who has been featured in individual and collective exhibitions in Europe and South America. Her paintings can be found as a private collection in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING EXHIBITION BY XU QINSONG
Featuring more than 80 works from ink wash paintings to sketches by Xu Qinsong, this exhibition provides visitors a unique opportunity to gain a better insight and understanding of this famous Chinese artist.

DANCE ACTION 2018 AT MACAO CULTURAL CENTRE
One of the main showcases of Regina Dance Group, a local ensemble that has been held annually since 2005, with a fresh theme every time, is coming back with a bang this year too. There are more than 200 performers, some as young as five years old, that are led by their dance teachers in delivering endearing performances.

ENCHANTED TOUCH–PLUCKED AND FINGERED STRINGS CONCERT
The Dom Pedro V Theatre will be presenting a contemporary ensemble piece which includes an unlikely arrangement of the theme song of the Hollywood blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean”, as well as works composed and arranged by musicians of the Macao Chinese Orchestra using plucked-strings with unique timbre.

ST PETERSBURG BALLET THEATRE RETURNS TO MACAU
St Petersburg Ballet Theatre is globally renowned not just for its beautiful Vaganova Ballet Academy trained dancers but also for its grand, full-length productions.
