The hospitality industry went through a rough patch and the challenge is to face adversity and overcome it. In an online ceremony, The Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2021 unraveled new stars, as well as a brand new category: the Michelin Green Star! The Green Star is awarded to restaurants that care about and promote sustainable cuisines. Let’s take a look into who hit the podium in Macau this year!
Hot News: Wing Lei Palace Awarded One Star & IFT Cheered for its Green Efforts
Michelin’s selection for this 2021 features 18 starred restaurants in Macau. This year, it’s Cantonese restaurant Wing Lei Palace that shines, as it’s elevated to a One Michelin Star establishment. Managed by chef Tam Kwok Fung, it’s located in Wynn Palace and serves some of the most exquisite south China dishes in the region. This is what the inspectors had to say about Wing Lei Palace, “The appointment of chef Tam led to a rejuvenation of Wing Lei Palace, with many of his signature and seasonal dishes added to the menu. Don’t miss the lychee wood-roasted meats or braised fish broth with fish maw and vegetables. At lunch, dim sum options are also available. The room features spacious table settings and floor to ceiling windows which also provide fantastic views of the Performance Lake show.”
This 13th edition of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2021 comes with a brand new category to award restaurants pushing toward a greener, more sustainable gastronomy and our city is also included with IFT Educational Restaurant, from the Institute of Tourism Studies.
The Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2021 distinguishes a total of nine One-Star restaurants in Macau, plus 50 others in Hong Kong. “IFT Educational Restaurant, a training unit set up to sustain the development of Macau’s hospitality industry employs practices such as the conversion of food waste into fertiliser, growing their owns herbs and greens, and has a solar energy system, a paperless policy and infrared sensor-driven electrical appliances in place as part of their commitment to reduce resource consumption”, the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau states.
There’s also the 2021 Bib Gourmand selection–announced on January 18–that includes eateries offering three courses for a maximum of MOP $400, which this time includes seven street food spots in the city. These are established and popular Chan Seng Kei, Cheong Kei, Din Tai Fung (in City of Dreams), IFT Educational Restaurant, Lok Kei Noodles, Lou Kei (Fai Chi Kei) and O Castiço.
