“A Vencedora” is the Portuguese expression for “The Winner”. Having opened in 1918, this joint is located in the heart of the city and its decor is simple, yet clean and easygoing. The restaurant offers few dishes, but all of them with a Portuguese taste. Besides the typical Macanese minchi, there is also boiled codfish with vegetables, feijoada—a Portuguese stew with different meats, beans and cabbage served with plain rice—and bitoque (beef steak with a side dish of French fries and a fried egg). There’s also caldo verde soup and a Chinese-style broth for the ones who prefer it.
Diners usually order a glass of wine to go with the main dish. The restaurant owner is Chinese and does not speak fluent Portuguese, but his grandmother learned this warm-hearted gastronomy with a former employer from Lisbon, Portugal. That’s the main reason why A Vencedora’s owner is so eager to host Portuguese people at his establishment.
Located on a street known for having abundant sportswear and sneakers shops, A Vencedora is also close to the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong, a few minutes away from Senado Square area, and from Tap Seac Square the opposite direction.
