Located in Macau Peninsula, The Macao Museum of Art was founded in March 1999 and it is still the only museum in town fully dedicated to arts.
With an area of 4,000 square meters designated for exhibitions, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) is divided into different areas: Chinese traditional art, the collections of MAM and a large special gallery. It also comprises a library dedicated to art, offering a wide range of books covering subjects like art history, paintings, ceramics, photography and illustrated children’s books.
The museum plays a crucial role in boosting the art scene in Macau and allowing the public (locals and visitors) the possibility to appreciate art and culture from different places and times. It holds exhibitions in cooperation with cultural institutes from China and has exhibited artworks from countries such as France, Italy and Korea.
Moreover, the museum occasionally hosts artists and experts (local and from abroad) to explore the exhibitions’ subjects through seminars and often promotes art education by organising guided tours, workshops, outreach projects and talks aimed at general public, schools, as well as non-profit organisations.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00am to 7:00pm; Open on public holidays
