Rua da Praia do Manduco, also known as “hawker street” is one of the oldest streets in town and besides lots of local eateries, laundry parlors, banks, and one of the city’s oldest fresh food markets–São Lourenço–it features a series of food and clothing street stalls opened every day with affordable items and highly frequented by locals. Rua da Praia do Manduco is a great place to absorb the local culture as it is. Residents usually head there to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, but also shirts and slippers, flowers, and more. Nearby attractions include A-Ma Temple, St. Lawrence’s Church, the market with the same name and, a bit further, Lilau Square–you can read about it here–and Mandarin’s House.
