S. Lourenço Library is located on the third floor of the market with the same name. It followed the refurbishment works of São Lourenço Market and opened to public in 2009. The building is located on one of Barra’s main streets, Rua da Praia do Manduco.
The S. Lourenço Library spans 1,245 square meters and it’s comprised of a reading area, a multimedia room, a children’s reading room, and a newspaper and periodical reading area. It’s the to-go place for everyone living in the area. Like every public library in Macau, this too is admission free. S. Lourenço Library is mostly frequented by elderly residents and people coming in with children, looking for books for them.
The S. Lourenço Library houses 14,492 volumes, 219 pieces of audiovisual materials, 53 global newspapers titles and 141 magazine titles. It provides seating for 151 and its activity room can accommodate 40 people. The library is open till late.
S. Lourenço Municipal Market includes a wet market downstairs–selling fresh fish, meat, vegetables, fruits and eggs–frozen food and a cooked foods hall on the upper floor, which gets quite busy during lunch and dinner time. This floor also boasts an outdoor area with shaded seating where people can eat, drink and relax. The terrace of S. Lourenço Municipal Market also has a rooftop area with a kids playground and a relaxation area where the elderly read the newspaper and take naps.
