A Comprehensive Healthcare Guide for Expats in Macau

expat healthcare macau

Macau is more than just the “Las Vegas of Asia”. While from a non-resident point of view, one may think that it’s a tiny city, you’ll be surprised by the multi-faceted character of this SAR that attracts millions of tourists each year. Macau proves to be a unique destination offering experiences unlike any other in the region. With a multi-cultural scene, you’ll find a growing group of expats who contribute to the city’s development and advancement. If you’re considering moving to this side of Asia, it’s important to understand how the Macau healthcare system works for expats as a part of your plan. It’s quite simple and easy because of the small population. All citizens of Macau and expats who have residence permits as well as Macau ID cards are entitled to free medical care at government-funded health centers and public hospitals. However, there are also numerous private clinics and two private hospitals in the city that offer services to expats with excellent programs.

Kiang Wu Hospital and the Macau University of Science & Technology Hospital are two of the well-known private hospitals in the city. It is also significant to note that there is one main public hospital in Macau that provides free medical care to its residents and expats alike. Conde S. Januario hospital offers 24-hour emergency care and has the provision to provide a variety of outpatient care. Private clinics around the city also have provisions to offer outpatient care. On the other hand, there are seven Health Centres dotted around the different districts of Macau. These healthcare services provided by Health Centres are applicable to all legal residents of Macau while non-residents are required to pay for various services according to rates established by the Health Bureau. Bookmark this page if you’re making the big leap to move to Macau. These addresses and phone numbers will come in handy for all your medical needs.
