HISTORY
Founded by Irish Jacobite military officer Richard Hennessy in 1765, the Hennessy cognac distillery has passed through many generations of the family building a dynasty that has made a name for itself in the world of trade. It was in 1971 that Kilian Hennessy spearheaded the company’s merger with Moët et Chandon giving birth to Moët Hennessy. Moët Hennessy eventually merged with Louis Vuitton in 1987 thus creating one of the world’s largest luxury brand conglomerates, Louis Vuitton and Moët-Hennessy or known as LVMH today.

The Hennessy brand is purported to sell about 50 million bottles a year worldwide making up more than 40 percent of the world’s cognac. As the largest cognac producer, the intrigue behind its creation has always mesmerized enthusiasts. Have a look at the infographic display area divulging myths and knowledge of the cognac-making process. Find out the source of Hennessy’s craftsmanship by exploring an important step in cognac making which is the art of maturation. The eaux de vie age in handmade oak barrels, after which the amber-colored essences are carefully blended, the secret process that results in the incomparable taste of Hennessy. But what exactly is eaux de vie? Its literal translation means “water of life” but the term is referred to describe distilled spirits of all kinds.
Prepare to be captivated by the Hennessy Tasting Committee’s Grand Tasting Room at the end of your journey. The beautiful space is designed after the closed-to-public tasting room situated on Rue de la Richonne in France. Embark on an exclusive tasting experience from Fridays to Sundays during the exhibition period. Each registered participant will take on the role of a member of the enigmatic Grand Tasting Committee, where they will learn to understand and make decisions regarding the cognac, with important members of the committee.
