Poetry and Musical Jam Session Vasco Bar

We hope you’re feeling artistic and inspired because this weekend is all about arts and exhibitions. Stop by Grand Lapa Macau’s Vasco Bar for an amazing talent night of poetry and musical session together with some of the artists from The Script Road’s Literary Festival. The Taipa Village is hosting a pre-Easter activity of egg painting as well as the famous Din Dong art exhibition is awaiting your attention. Perfect for your kids to enjoy and prep up for the next Easter weekend.

POETRY AND MUSICAL JAM SESSION AT VASCO BAR

Grand Lapa’s Vasco Bar and Lounge is coming back in its third year with The Script Road – Macau Literary festival for an open-mic. It is open to everyone to perform and express their culture by solo performer or band, instrumental or acoustic music, and traditional poetry or spoken word reading, regardless of language, as long as the content is appropriate and acceptable. For some shy guests, you are more than welcome to sit back and enjoy the show accompanied by cocktails and champagnes.

When: 9:30pm—11:30pm, Thursday, and Friday, March 22 and 23

DIN DONG X TAIPA VILLAGE CREATIVE ART EXHIBITION

The Taipa Village Cultural Association presents the first “Din Dong” themed creative art show in Macau. Exhibiting over 50 artworks created by local students who participated in making drawings with just handmade elements on a piece of paper, under the theme of “What will Din Dong do when he is in Taipa Village?” for the 2017 “Din Dong x Taipa Village Creative Art Competition”. To kick off the show for the art space this year, the showcase aims to recognize the talent of local youths by offering them a platform to demonstrate their artwork.

When: 12:00pm–8:00pm (closed on Mondays), February 28–April 13

EASTER FACE & EGG PAINTING

Let’s get down to fun with some color. In this painting fair, kids will get a chance to not only paint their own Easter eggs but also get a complimentary face paint by a festive makeup artist. It’s going to be a vibrant scene so pull out your digital cameras and phones and take a snap of this beautiful event.

THE SCRIPT ROAD– MACAU’S 7TH LITERARY FESTIVAL

The Script Road– Macau Literary Festival was founded in 2012 by local newspaper Ponto Final and is based in the Macau Special Administrative Region and is the largest gathering of literati from China and the Portuguese-speaking countries in the world. It has gained popularity as an international event that welcomes renowned writers, publishers, translators, journalists, musicians, filmmakers and visual artists from various
nationalities.

In this year’s festival they will be featuring five authors– Peter Hessler and Leslie T. Chang from the U.S., Rosa Montero from Spain, and Han Dong and A Yi from China as well as Portuguese-speaking authors Julian Fuks (Brazil) – winner of the latest José Saramago Award – and Ana Margarida de Carvalho (Portugal) – two-time winner of the Portuguese Writers Association Award who will be visiting the city in March as well.

PUNACOTHECA– PAINTING AND ILLUSTRATION BY RODRIGO DE MATOS

Rodrigo de Matos’s latest exhibition is made up of paintings that “are a kind of visual wordplay”. The Portuguese cartoonist says that “The images are almost always literal interpretations of certain expressions, which end up in a certain degree of surrealism.”

PHOTO MACAU | ART FAIR EXHIBITION

One of Asia’s newest international art fair dedicated to the art, photography and moving images aims to bring world-class photography and video to Asia. Through a carefully curated collection of art and photo galleries from around the world, this show will bring the world’s leading photographers, curators, collectors, dealers and art lovers under one roof.

SOMETIMES I FEEL THAT I’M NOT MYSELF – WORKS BY JOSÉ DRUMMOND

José Drummond is a Portuguese artist and curator whose exhibition “Sometimes I feel that I am not myself” reflects the notion of “self” and “non-self”. It showcases the most recent works of the artist from 2017 to 2018; including painting, photography, video art as well as installations. In recent years, José has turned to a more philosophical style which was also seen in his expressions since the beginning of his practice.

MACAU GREEN WEEK

To promote environmental education, the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau each year organizes Macau Green Week that is now in its 37th edition – featuring activities such as a green week carnival, tree planting, a green walk and the official launch of the book “The Magic and Enchantment of Bryophytes”. The nine-day programme coincides with the United Nations’ International Day of Forests, a global celebration that provides a platform to raise awareness on the importance of all types of woodlands and trees.

HONG KONG EVENTS

If you’re planning to travel to Hong Kong this weekend check out these events as well. The Taste of Hong Kong is welcoming 20 restaurants who each made their marks on Hong Kong’s culinary scene, and Asia’s contemporary art show in its 12th edition featuring over 80 galleries from around the world and Hong Kong’s first international sculpture park on display is opened to the public for free, so don’t miss this opportunity.

TASTE OF HONG KONG 2018

Mark your calendars for the return of Taste of Hong Kong turning the charming city into a foodie paradise on March 22 to 25, 2018. Set against the city’s vibrant skyline as a backdrop, Taste of Hong Kong presented by Standard Chartered will welcome a total of 20 restaurants such as Bo Innovation, Caprice, Little Bao, Pici, Chachawan, One Harbour Road, as well as BlackSalt, Forbidden Duck, Frantzen’s Kitchen, Haku and New Punjab Club who each made their marks on Hong Kong’s culinary scene.

Boasting of nine different cuisines and over 60 dishes–four from each participating restaurant including one never before seen on the menus in Hong Kong and entirely exclusive to the festival, the four-day culinary playground is set to attract thousands of guests. It will feature delicious food and fabulous entertainment ranging from live bands, cooking demonstrations, wine workshops, magical market and children’s play areas.

ASIA CONTEMPORARY ART SHOW IN HONG KONG

Returning back to Hong Kong is the Asia Contemporary Art show on its 12 edition, welcoming over 80 galleries from Asia and other countries including Lithuania, Lebanon, South Korea, Peru, Mexico and many others. This fair strives to reflect current trends in the contemporary art market by presenting a diverse selection of artists across the world whose works challenge the status quo.

HARBOUR ARTS SCULPTURE ART IN HONG KONG

Hong Kong’s first international sculpture park features works by emerging and renowned local and international contemporary artists. It is opened to the public and will be part of the city’s iconic harbourfront for six weeks. Heartfelt and playful interactions between the artworks, city and the public will be immense as it demonstrates that art is for everyone and is an essential part of our daily lives. The sculpture park is also accompanied by the “Jockey Club Arts Education Programme” which engages an extensive programme of free workshops, educational activities, support tools, interactive tour guides, and a public art symposium encouraging the discussion of art within the city, creating a cultural vibrant Hong Kong through the appreciation and learning of arts and culture.
