Dr Seuss once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Give your children and loved ones the gift of reading as Macao Library Week starts this weekend with educational and entertaining activities for everyone in the city. Indulge in Japanese cuisine, jazz music and explore wonderful events with the whole family.

To echo the ‘World Book Day’ on 23 April, a series of activities have been organised jointly by Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the Macao Library & Information Management Association (MLIMA) and co-organised by Wu Yee Sun Library of the University of Macau since 2002 to promote reading throughout the community, and now they have become annual events well-known in the local library sphere.
The activities of Macao Library Week 2017 will be themed “Reading and Images”, aiming to widen the horizon of reading discuss the interaction between image and reading. What is the relationship between “see” and “read”? This seems to be a perplexing question, however, if we put ourselves in children’s shoes, we will see how images arouse their curiosity and lead them to read spontaneously, we easily realize that our life is filled with dialogues between images and reading. Sometimes it is through images that lead us to reading; other times, it is reading itself that provokes a multiplicity of imagined scenes. Both are intrinsically linked, turning into the source of our knowledge and life story.
When: April 22 – 25
Where: Old Court Building, 459 Av. da Praia Grande, Macau
How much: Free admission
