TALK:THE VISUAL WORLD OF XAVIER DOLAN AND DIRECTOR-IN-FOCUS: XAVIER DOLAN
Xavier Dolan can be described as the most top new young filmmaker over the past few years in the international film arena. Coming from Canada, he is prolific in filming six feature films in seven years from “I Killed My Mom” in 2009 to “It’s Only The End of the World” in 2016. All his films are much awaited and won acclaim from the media and the film festivals. Except being a director, Dolan is also a scriptwriter, actor, editor, producer, and costume designer. A talented and versatile star you must be curious to know, Hoi will try to introduce the characteristics of his films and visual style in a lucid way to Macao audience at the talk.

We live in an era in which fame is much better to be achieved early. Often referred to as the “young prodigy from Quebecois cinema”, Xavier Dolan seems to justify that statement perfectly as he began his career as a child actor in TV drama and commercials at the age of 5.
Dolan attracted international attention with his first feature film, I killed my mother, which he wrote, directed, produced and starred at the age of 19. The film premiered at the Director’s Fortnight program of the Cannes Film Festival in 2009 and received three awards. Subsequently, Dolan directed 5 more feature films at a rate of almost one feature film per year. In 2014, his film Mommy was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival and shared the Jury Prize with legendary French director Jean-Luc Goddard.
