The Londoner Macao First Phase Opening on February 8th

(See featured image above)

There is certainly no shortage of impressive buildings in Macau. The region has cemented its status as an entertainment hub in Asia and it’s no surprise that the skyline has swelled impressively year after year with trail-blazing buildings constantly being added. This year, we are ecstatic to learn that The Londoner Macao is set to open the first phase of its property this February. Nestled at the center of the Cotai Strip, the new hotel brings the excitement and charm of the Victorian era to our city.

From the same property that brought us the largest spectacular hotel resort in Asia and landmarks inspired by recreations of world-famous landmarks, The Londoner Macao is a unique addition to the vibrant scene of Macau. Every corner has been meticulously designed making The Londoner Macao a true celebration of timeless British design. This project also represents Sands’ latest collaboration with David Beckham representing his first foray into this design field. Mr. Beckham, who is known around the world as a British sporting icon and international businessman has been a Sands Resorts Macao global ambassador for many years already so it comes as no surprise that he has collaborated with the brand making it an even more special project.

Chinese New Year Happenings

CNY 2021 Macau

Chinese New Year 2021

It is the most important and colorful Chinese festival celebrated by the majority of the local population, where shops, offices, factories close for this traditional holiday. For ten days, there are a huge number of events celebrating the New Year. The long dragon and lions dance on the streets, crowds visit the temples, lanterns, flowers and entertainment come alive in the most important squares of the city. It is also a tradition when people visit and greet each other with two joined hands closed, saying “Kung Hei Fat Choi” and offering “Lai Si” (red packets) containing money, which is a way to wish good luck and prosperity throughout the year to friends and relatives.

The 15th day of the First Moon is the Lantern Festival, which is also Valentine’s Days in the Chinese tradition. At night, the celebrations continue with colorful lanterns placed all around. Small glutinous rice balls are eaten as dessert, for homophonic reasons and symbolize the “ribbon of friendship”, “family reunion” or “good luck” for the Chinese.

“From In” Performance

“From In” is a Chinese contemporary dance piece brought by the Xie Xin Dance Theatre to be staged in two shows. Described as a frenzied display of contrasts, “From In” is an enigmatic and fluid work interpreted by nine dancers whose figures appear and disappear, like fading images in a film. Xie Xin’s work explores a multiplicity of moments where the bodies are taken to the extreme, flowing in their elasticity to produce an aesthetics of priming elegance.

Since its 2016 debut in Shanghai, the show toured numerous cities in China from Beijing and Hong Kong to Hangzhou, and was invited to various European dance festivals, like the Stuttgart Colours and the Kuopio Dance where it has been acclaimed by audience and critics alike.
